NPWS is investing in world-class visitor infrastructure to support the regional tourism sector
NPWS is seeking to invest in new visitor infrastructure and world-class nature-based tourism experiences, to address unprecedented demand and changing visitor expectations, and contribute to the sustainability and resilience of regional economies. Visitor infrastructure generates 70% of total visitor demand, and NPWS’ infrastructure generates over $18 billion of economic activity annually, supporting 74,000 direct and indirect jobs with over 75% outside of Sydney.
Capital Insight prepared the business cases to support the investment in ‘great walks’ and ‘core visitor infrastructure’, as part of an overarching joint submission.
We supported NPWS in meeting compressed submission timeframes, and in delivering a compelling case for change and comprehensive quantitative analysis to justify the preferred option. The project will deliver significant public value through increased recreational, tourism and active health benefits, and improved environmental conservation value through rewilding projects.
